So far this is the pre-production and lyrics to one of the first songs to go under the knife for the next album.  This was done on REASON 5.  I may do a demo version of it in Record.  I will see what my advisors Donyea, Vitamin D, and Bubba Jones have to say about it.  I’m excited to get more songs going.  I have lots of music and am putting in the lyrics.

The main chord progression and REASON C-11 and Dbmaj9 is about 3-5 years old.  The bridge is brand new: Gbmaj7|Emaj7|Eb-11|G7(alt)|Gbmaj7|Emaj7|Dmaj9|Dbmaj9 |  It is a cool juxtaposition for a song with basically two chords in it to a bridge that has 6 different changes.  I think I pulled off being busy without sound busy or crowded.

In a nutshell this song is about putting the past behind you through communication and declaring it behind you.  It is a simple yet all too often left undone thing to do.

Here is the working version of the lyrics.  Please make note of what actually makes it on the released recording.  The lyrics and hell lots of things could change.  I am looking to share the actual process.  I’ve never shared the process before so I will be creating the best way to do that.

All right!  Now I don’t even have cable but Vena Costales one of my co-stars in the video texted me last night and said friends of hers had been calling saying they saw her on VH1 Soul!  What was once an unconfirmed rumor is now confirmed!!  Fun stuff!  i wonder what I can do to make sure it plays long.  Is there some kind of request campaign I need to start working on?  I want to thank Thornell Jones of Fortress Marketing who was behind my whole submission process from the jump.  I would not have known who to or where to send my video with him.  I would also like to thank Motzo from Digital Marionette who put the entire video together.  Editing, shooting, story boarding and all!  Look for more updates and new music videos coming soon!

This series of blogs (1-14) chronicle my thoughts, whims and history of every song on my newest album “Can’t Get Enough” which took six years to make. I was thrilled to work closely with musical geniuses to make this album a reality. Super producer/engineer/mix artist Vitamin D masterfully led us and was in charge of the overall sonic quality, production and mixing of the album. Music superman and multi-instrumentalist Donyea Goodman’s production skills are featured on over half the tracks on the album. Super producers Jake One and Malay contributed as well.

Get Down To This Loving

The main trakc for this was brought to me my Vitamin D.  Tasty producers Jake One and Malay had done it.  Vitamin showed mt 2 racks by them thinking they would fit our project.  One certainly did.  in fact it was a l like something I had already composed on Propellerheads REASON.  I will post my original audio at the end of this post.  I have a few extra changes in mine so we added them to this track.  Vitamin D and Donyea really got busy.  All the string and horn ideas are Donyea’s.  The way it all fits together and sounds great is Vitamin D.  CD Littlefield adds the pimping to the Flugelhorn lines.  Wish we had had the time to get him on all the trumpets.  Vitamin D tracked all the vocals and horns at his studio the Pharmacy.

Most of the exciting horn line and string composition was done by Donyea at Bubba Jones’ original studio above the Jones Music store.  That i where I recorded my very first album.  It is rare to get me, Vitamin D and Donyea in the same room.  That was one such day.  Why Fight was born out of that session as well!

This song was inpsired by a relationship that as ending.  It has been a long while since I wrote this song and I can see the universality of it.  It is not just pertaining to that one.  Since this is the final installment of my story telling about each track of this album I think it is time to share that the guy that wrote this album is not around anymore.  Let’s not get it twisted.  i love this album.  It is the album I am most proud of in my career.  It is a perfect cap to a sweet urban soul trilogy.   Art is just a trip.  It really helps you be able to see the snapshots in time of yourself and where you were in comparison to how you are now.  It really dawned on me in the last performance I had recently at the Electric Tea Garden that I’m not attached to these songs anymore.  That is good news because it is hard to have fun being so attached.

It is time for some new songs and a new project.  I hope you have enjoyed this series of blogs.  It took a longtime to finish just like the album did.  Haha!

I really loved having my songs brought to life by Vitamin D and Donyea Goodman.  I love that this song got just about everyone together.  Thanks to Jake One and Malay or their masterful work that inspired this song.  There is actually a video for it.  I will see if I can incluse it in this blog entry as well as the lyrics and original REASON file audio.
